Alessandro is an Ambassador for Heart Research Australia. At the age of 36 Alessandro had his first heart attack, followed by a second within 8 months. Now he is determined to spread the word that heart research matters.
“After my first heart attack, I kept hearing the doctors using jargon that later I learned were the names of cardiac procedures and methodologies that Heart Research Australia had funded. That was when I first understood that I owed them my life.”
“Being able to support Heart Research Australia by being an Ambassador and sharing my story and support is really important to me. The more people that know about their great work the better for all of us!”
Alessandro and Anna are determined to spread the message that heart research saves lives by supporting Heart Research Australia.
Making break-throughs in heart disease happen
Heart Research Australia’s goal is to reduce the devastating impact heart disease has on families and the community. They do this by supporting world class and emerging researchers to conduct ground-breaking research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
The research funded and supported by Heart Research Australia is life-saving.
In a trial funded by Heart Research Australia, cardiologists used stents and an alternative to clot–busting drugs for the immediate treatment of heart attacks. At the same time, they started a new protocol to assess and triage patients in the ambulance. Using ECG diagnosis and transmitting the results directly to the hospital, saved precious time from incident to treatment. The combination of these trials reduced death rates from heart attacks from 30% to just 2% at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital and is now standard practice across Australia.
Heart Research Australia is one of the few organisations in Australia focused on funding first-stage research projects. This initial stage of research doesn’t often qualify for government funding, which means that without the support of Heart Research Australia, these projects might never see the light of day.

But they need your help.
Some of the projects they current support include:
-
Identifying the potential heart attack risk for patients without any modifiable risk factors.
-
Blood tests that can help predict high blood pressure in pregnant patients.
-
New scan technology to identify early risk factors for heart disease.
-
The development of personalised heart patches using patient stem cells to help heal heart damage following a heart attack.
-
Preventing heart disease in high-risk premature infants later in life.
You see, all of these research projects are still in the early stages, requiring many more tests and gathering of evidence to attract government funding or private investment. This means they are reliant on community and charity funding to help progress their research.
We invite you to make a generous, tax-deductible donation today to help accelerate these potentially life-saving research projects.
Your gift will ensure important research projects like these and many more can continue.
Together we can make breakthroughs in heart disease happen.
Every dollar makes a difference, so please give generously.
